Remember how exciting it was when cable technology came out, and for a fee a user could see shows on almost anything they want. It’s still very popular, along with satellite TV services such as http://www.direct.tv.

Now there’s Internet TV, where a user can see shows on a myriad of subjects, many of them after they were originally aired on regular television. A person can watch shows that they don’t get on their own TV by streaming media right into their computer. It’s becoming so popular that around 10pm the programs are surging with data that allows people to watch shows online.

With technology being so much better than when televisions were invented, now people can enjoy digital clarity and high-definition on special screens (TV, computer) that were made just for viewing movies on.

Internet TV is Better Than Cable

In the present, most of the TV viewing websites are free, although a few of them do charge for their services, and users get to watch commercial-free shows to catch up on what they’ve missed. However, now there are shows made to be viewed online and users can download or watch them whenever they want. These shows are not on television, cable, or satellite television. They are on Internet stations.

Watching TV this way can enable a user to see the shows when they have time, and not miss them because the show is on while they’re at work or out of the home. There are devices that allow a user to record shows to watch later, but if the time is set wrong or the user forgets, they could miss their show altogether. However, Internet TV shows will be there all day (no matter the weather) so the user can watch when it’s convenient.

Evening seems to be the time when most people watch Internet TV. Some channels put out as much as 7pb (petabytes) in peak hours, which usually runs somewhere around 10pm.

Whenever you communicate a message at the corporate level, there are several key points to keep in mind. Keep reading for two important tips:

A Consistent Message

One of the principles of effectively facilitating corporate communications is to ensure that you are always delivering a consistent message throughout the organization. This is particularly important if you are working on any sort of public relations campaign where it is essential for stakeholders to hear one consistent message. It can be quite easy for a message to become muddled during a crisis, because people often feel compelled to act before they think things through completely. One tool that can help you to stay on track with messages even during stressful situations is a crisis communication plan. You can also encourage employees to stay in touch with portable options like the LG Android Phone.

Efficient Communication Channels

Another crucial point in effective corporate communications is to be sure that each message is efficiently spread to everyone who needs to hear it. This means that the appropriate people will know relevant information quickly. There are many tools that corporations use to achieve this goal, including social media networks, IM chat, or other communication software. If you need a new method for dispersing information to your employees, it is important to be patient and try several options before settling on your ultimate choice.

Although there are many other aspects that are involved in successful corporate communications, keeping these two in mind will help you get off to a strong start, regardless of the size of your organization or the number of people you are trying to reach with your message.

Video conferencing is all the rage. Why leave home when you can conference within it? Many folks find that a video conference is just like being there, or pretty close. They can ask questions, receive answers, and even get a look at the flip chart or other form of teaching aid your using without craning their neck.

Here’s some help in getting it ready:

Know your animal—make sure the picture and audio is of the best quality and sound. A video conference is a different animal from streaming; so is a desktop conference from a room conference. Know the difference and set up your conference based on your specific needs.

Set up a time for the video conference. Schedule it at least two weeks in advance, and have folks sign up for it. Make sure participants know what you expect. When planning a time, keep in mind the various time zones. Get IP phone numbers and follow through with a reminder before the event.

Make sure everything is in order. Close the curtains, straighten the chairs and make sure all electronics are working, including the computer, camera and speakers at least 15 minutes before sign in time.

Dress appropriately. Keep shirt designs to a minimum. Blue is the best color. Avoid wearing white.

Focus on your audience. Avoid side conversations, speak in your normal voice, and keep to your notes. Ask everyone to introduce themselves before you begin.

Make time for the asking and answering of questions. This is important in evaluating where the audience stands after your presentation and tells you what you can do next time to fill in the gaps.

Video conference is an effective tool for the business of any size as it allows people to communicate with others from any part of the world in real-time. The business teams can communicate more interactively than other communication methods. Here are few methods to do effective video conferences.

Image via Wikipedia

First important point is to stay focused when there is online meeting. The members in the video conference should be attentive, virtually present, and active throughout the meeting. Even a small amount of distraction would disturb the entire meeting. Certain things should be checked well ahead of time before the online meetings. The system should be rebooted before the meeting, call can be made 10 minutes earlier, should have information about the alternate connection, should have backup connection, internet connection should be properly checked, unnecessary programs running in the system can be shut down, and finally it is safe to have UPS.

After the video conference, summary of the meeting should be well composed and should be sent to respective members in the meeting through email. An email summary is an easy way to clear all the misunderstanding and also a best way to record all the content of the meeting. In video conferencing, people should know how to argue politely. The most important point is that one should know how to mesh different ideas and work with the disagreements.

The contents for this online meeting should be plan ahead to avoid confusions and all the necessary documents should be prepared well ahead of time. The background of the meeting place should be clear and place should not have any disturbing sound.

When there’s a lot of money on the line with a big corporation, you can imagine some moves or endeavors — such as a merger or acquisition — can change the name of the game drastically. Imagine what it must be like to be a CEO saddled with the decision of the direction the company will take. Even insurance companies with their policies put in a healthy amount of money.

The trick is to focus more on your hits than misses. You have to remember that your corporation sits on a huge, almost unbreakable foundation. It’s like spending a night at the professional poker tables and losing every game but still having some money in the bank for another day. One day won’t kill you. Likewise, one day won’t kill a company.

That being said, be sure to think decisions through before jumping so quickly into something. Disaster can occur pretty quickly — sometimes so quick that it’ll surprise you. You’ll lose a great deal of money and would have to consolidate plenty of your assets to keep yourself covered. That’s not something you want. Take your time and think about the cost to merge with that other company or acquire the business of another company — consider such things as an extra mortgage, extra costs on staffing, insurance, taxes. Doubling up on everything can throw you awry if you’re not careful.

That’s playing hardball in business, folks. Pretty scary stuff. But as long as you have your game face on and show no fear, in the business world you’ll be a heavy hitter.

Technology and business have become one and the same. In this day and age the use of technology is essential to the modern business. Its advancements have made companies more cost effective and efficient.

For instance, business costs are cut by the use of the internet and video conferencing. What used to take a plane ride and a hotel stay are now being done with the use of a computer. Clients can be up to date on what they need to know and have their problems solved in a timely fashion thanks to video conferencing and web based chat lines.

Businesses are also benefiting from the use of online education. Not only are the institutions themselves benefiting from a business model with a low overhead, but the companies that are having their employees train through online education are finding the cost savings benefits. If you are interested in pursuing an education try earnmydegree.com and you will find the very best information about online education.

Businesses have found that their sales staff has improved with the use of technology. Thanks to mobile phones and wireless internet connections, the sales staff can answer calls as they come in and can keep records and notes about each client with them at all times. This cuts down on the time they may waste looking for records and has allowed them to make sales in half the time they used to.

The technologies businesses are using are making it easier to own and operate a smaller business. With lower overhead costs it’s creating a competitive marketplace once again.

There are plenty of ways in which you can benefit from online gambling. One way you could do very well would be to start up your own casino. Others just play at those casinos. Many of them lose money, but they have a lot better chance of seeing cash if they know how to play the game very well and they take the time to practice it. It’s not necessary for you to play for money at an online casino. Instead, you can sign up to play just for fun. You won’t win cash, but you won’t lose any, either. Then, when you feel as though you’re good enough to be competitive, you can start putting up some of your own money and winning some from the casino. In addition to creating a casino or playing in the casinos that are already created, you can be an affiliate marketer for some of the gambling websites and make money that way, as well.

Because technology is advancing so rapidly, careful research can show you a good financial benefit. You may not get rich overnight, but you can build yourself a little financial cushion over time. The more research you do into gaming options like BetUS Online Casino, the more you will learn about how online gaming actually works and how you can see big benefits from it. If you’re patient and you keep working at it, you’ll be able to make some money and do something that you really enjoy. It’s hard to get anything better than that.

The businesses are largely dependent on the technology and with the rise of the global culture there has also been a rise in the greater part of the business being dependent upon technology and internet. The internet has become an essential part of every organisation. There is no global organisation which does not use computers or the internet. With the rise in the requirements of the communication and the information flow within the structure of the large organisations the internet is a very important part. Despite of the technology advancements in the business there are few business etiquettes which the employees need to follow so as to make the structure a healthy environment. The hardware and the software of the offices are not for personal use and thus the hardware and the software thus must be treated with due respect and should be taken care of. The internet provided by the business houses is not for personal use and thus should not be mis utilised for downloading unwanted stuff. The internet provided by the business should only be used for the business and the official purposes. The hardware and the software of the office must be kept safe and should be used so as to cause harm or damage to them. There are many companies which have a very strict code of conduct for the internet and the hardware and the software of the business violating which may even lead to the termination of the employee. For a safe and a healthy business environment the property of the office must be respected and so should be the etiquettes and the policies of the company.

In the recent years the corporate culture or the culture of the huge MNC business has grown in leaps and bounds and this has increased the number of people and the organisations participating in the functioning. These days there are hundreds of MNC’s business functioning and working across different geographies around the world. With the MNC’s business functioning across different geographies there exists a huge physical difference between the people across the geographies doing the same work. The technology has made the communication among these people sitting across different geographies easier, can also say that the technology has reduced the distances between the people. The im chat, video conferences has helped in reducing the differences. The im chat in the offices have enables the smooth flow of the information and the communication among the employees in the business. The communication in the previous days was basically done with the help of the business trips. The business trips however could not fulfil the need of the day to day communication among the employees working in the same business and the same projects. The business trips were also very limited and could not get the entire requirement fulfilled. The im chats and the video conferences make it possible for the clients and the delivery people to understand what is required by the business making the work very easier to be completed and at the same time with the higher accuracy. He business trips can never make up to the communication levels provided by the im chats and the video conferences. The im chats and the video conferences help the business in a great way, they even help to reduce the costs and at the same time help in increasing the client satisfaction.

No longer is internet business only for techno-philes and business minded people. Artists and craftspeople are also finding success using the internet as their primary business strategy. The following are a few sites where you can find success in selling your arts, crafts and ideas to a large online audience.

Etsy.com

Etsy is a site composed of many different shops with everything from jewelry to clothing to ceramics. Anything handmade or created with your vision can be sold on Etsy. It’s a great community for getting your art noticed. The site allows customers to search different categories to find exactly what they are looking for, or just browse everything available.

Fotomoto.com

For lovers of photography, fotomoto is a great way to sell prints of your photos and build a business online. This service allows you to link any photo on your website to a “Buy Prints” option, allowing your customers to choose from a number of sizes as well as greeting cards featuring your photos. For the budding photographer there is no better way to easily offer prints of your work.

Craft/Design Inspiration Blogs

Without directly selling products there are other ways to make money with your design inspiration. Blogs featuring wedding design, typography, interior design or even DIY project ideas are gaining in popularity in the world of internet business. Take whatever it is you may excel at, be it pairing outfits or putting together color inspiration for decorating, you can find a community online. Most design bloggers make money through ad sales, selling designs or even consulting.

These are just a few of the many ways in which you can utilize the internet for your business, even if it’s not a traditional type of business. There is a huge market for creative types to apply their skills and earn money using the internet.

These days if a person hasn’t heard of the social media giant Facebook, they’ve likely been living under a rock. While this business idea would be difficult to duplicate in terms of popularity and complexity, you can use the Facebook platform to propel your business to a new level. With over 500 million active users on Facebook, there is no better place to promote your business.

Build Your Profile

The first step in using Facebook to promote your business is to create a unique profile for your business. Many businesses have already taken advantage of this, in every sector from photography to acupuncture. Once you’ve got a profile, you can customize your profile to include information about your business, such as location and business hours. Facebook also allows you to put pictures on your profile so that you can show off your business or examples of your products or services.

Network

After finishing your profile you can add friends. It would be wise to add people you know first who are likely to support your business efforts. As you gain popularity and show quality products or services, your friends can link to your page or suggest friends who might also enjoy your business.

Promote

Once you’ve built up a solid network of friends, you can keep your friends up to date on what’s happening with your business. You can post promotions or specials happening now or even provide special deals only available through Facebook. You can also create groups tailored to your business that friends and customers can join.

These ideas are just the beginning of how you can transform your business using Facebook. Tapping into the massive amount of Facebook users can earn the loyalty of current customers and the ability to reach more people, quickly. With a little creativity, there is no end to the possibilities available in growing your business on Facebook.

Business plans are essential for any business that wants to get off to a smart start and may be used over and over again as the company grows. A business plan basically describes the operations of the business, their potential customers, how they will market to those customers, their goals and their structure. A business plan could be viewed by many different people including creditors, investors, and key employees.

It is important to note that a business plan does not always have to be a picture of the entire company. A new project or a new subsidiary may require a business plan of its own to ensure its success. This form of business mapping will keep company management focused on goals and moving forward. The components of a business plan incorporate every aspect of the company or project.

The best way to ensure that your business plan is going to be everything you want it to be is to remember that it is never finished and changes are always necessary. Stay as organized as possible, you may want to consider ERP in order to keep all your ideas, financing, and marketing efforts in one place.

The Executive Summary: This is a description of the entire business or project. This description should include company principals, a summary of the operations and the goals. The Executive Summary should also index the remainder of the business plan.

The Business Description: This is a more detailed description of the operations and a chronological account of its history.

Market Statistics: The business plan must include research of the market that the company plans to take a piece of, its competitors and how it intends to gain its share of the market.

Products and Services: The business plan must describe the company’s products and services. This is where they will set themselves apart from their competitors and where they will also include financial information.

Operations and Management: The background and experience of the company management and key players will be added here as talent within the organization will be crucial to the company’s success. While the annual report will be an annual financial description it should not be mistaken for a business plan.

Telecommuting is a huge trend in companies today, allowing employees the freedom to work from a place of their choosing as well as saving valuable time, money and resources for the company. Internet companies are marketing tools to help facilitate easy teamwork when dealing with telecommuting employees.

Google Shared Spaces

This application from Google allows users to collaborate with others from a distance. There are widgets to brainstorm with the team, show maps or drawings, and post surveys to take votes or gauge interest. There are also applications to collaborate on graphs and charts. These tools are useful when team planning with people who might not be in the same room, or even on the same continent.

Dropbox

Dropbox is an internet application designed to back up essential files which can then be shared with other Dropbox users designated by you. This application is very useful for sharing necessary files as well as creating a safe, internet-based archive in case memory loss occurs on your computer. Internet backups are a great new way to protect your valuable files and create worldwide access.

Skype

Skype has gained popularity as a free or low cost way to call other computers or phones all over the world. Utilizing the video feature, team members can chat with each other as well as share visuals with anyone, anywhere. If both users are calling from computers the service is completely free, no matter the distance. Skype has recently added a video conferencing feature which will allow multiple users to chat at the same time.

Utlizing these time and money-saving tools is a great way for your business to expand into the world of telecommuting while staying connected. These applications can be used with any computer and up-to-date operating system. Video functions obviously require a camera, which comes built into many computers today or can be acquired as an add-on device inexpensively. Taking advantage of new technologies can keep your business on the forefront of the market and competitive worldwide.

Social media is one of the largest markets today. Twitter, the famous mini-blog, is quickly becoming an important and innovative way to grow your business. There are many different ways that your employees can use Twitter to help promote your business and generate a loyal customer base.

Building a Solid Base of Followers

Twitter allows you to follow other Twitter users and for them to follow you. This system is an excellent way to build up a potential customer base and spread awareness of your company. Everyone and their mother has a Twitter account these days, and Twitter is becoming an influential social media whether for business or fun.

Events and Promotions

Using Twitter is a great way to share a quick message to promote events and let your followers know about special promotions your company might be having. While not every tweet should be about promoting yourself, it is good to let people know what you’ve got going on. It’s also a good way to schedule meet-ups with your followers to show an interest in community.

Share Interesting Information

If your company twitters only about itself, it can be isolating to your followers. Find other interesting information to share about your industry or even amusing anecdotes from the office. Keeping your followers entertained and interested in your tweets will help to grow your follower base and entice them to be more interested in your promotions when you do post those.

Gain Valuable Opinion

Another use for social media like Twitter is to gain opinion about your company or practices. You can ask questions for your followers to respond to and hear back about any number of topics. By showing you care about consumer opinion you can build trust in your company.

These are just a few ways that your company can use Twitter to promote your business and grow your customer base. Social media is changing the way companies can do business so it’s best to jump on board sooner rather than later.

Telecommuting is a growing trend among businesses today. New technology allows for businesses to utilize the internet, video conferences, email and im chats to conduct business. There are lot of benefits to allowing workers to “telecommute”, or work from home.

Employee Satisfaction

Employee satisfaction is a major plus of the telecommuting trend. Employees can work according to their schedules and tend to their home needs better with telecommuting. Additionally, families with two working parents have more time to devote to their families with no commute time. Employees will also be happy to be able to live where they like and have less worry about relocating for family or their spouses’ job.

Diverse Employment Field

Businesses that take advantage of telecommuting can cast a wider net when looking for talented employees. With location-independent employees companies can also enjoy a more diverse and knowledgable staff. Employees from various parts of the country, or even the world, can offer an interesting and helpful perspective to the company.

Lower Costs

Another benefit to telecommuting for businesses is the lower costs of maintaining offices. Working from home means less office space and lower electrical costs to the company. Telecommuting has also been shown to increase employee productivity, which means less wasted time and money for the company.

Growth potential

With all the money saved from lowered costs businesses have the potential to grow larger when taking advantage of telecommuting. Companies can add staff and new departments without worrying about office space or budgeting for increased office costs.

Employee Retention

As well as other benefits, technology friendly companies will have the benefit of retaining employees that might have been lost due to relocation. Employees with the freedom to live anywhere are more likely to stick with their jobs. The company can enjoy the benefits of retining these skilled employees and save on new employee searches as well as training.

The benefits to telecommuting are vast and growing all the time. Technology-savvy companies can take advantage of these benefits and others to create a working environment that is beneficial to both employee and company, while cutting costs.

Software can help to improve the way day to day business tasks are conducted. Not investing in software can keep the business at an unknown disadvantage. Unsecured office networks can leave the computer systems open to receive viruses. There is no reason to experience having to buy new computers due to security breaches from non effective security software. Here are some useful ways to stay current with business software.

Access to the right type of software can shave hours of time off your daily routine. Many people shy away from technology if they do not understand all of the details. Hiring someone who knows more than you is important. An IT specialist that has certifications in a number of different areas. Examples are setting up the networking systems so everyone in the office can access the new software.

Ask exactly which software would be beneficial for the office. Talk about the tasks you want to make faster and more organized. Ask your IT specialist for a few different options that offer the best value. This does not always mean the cheapest software. Short training meetings can help quickly bring everyone in the office up to date on how to access the new software. This may include any security protocols needed to access certain sensitive databases.

Reducing paperwork through software can eliminate the amount of storage space necessary for saving hard copies of files. Choose software that makes the jobs of your employee easier. Many businesses hire too many entry level employees to perform the same task. Software is a tool to help distribute work loads to get more done in less time. If you are technically savvy start upgrading your computer software. An IT professional can help relive you of any headaches you encounter. Use these tips to improve your office with software.

The video conferencing equipment is ready to go. Everything seems like it is going to work. The time comes and then nothing. The conference was a technological failure. It happens if you pick the wrong video conferencing service. The most likely culprit is having two incompatible video conferencing systems. This can be a big issue with time differences and scheduling conflicts. The time of the video conference was carefully selected beforehand to accommodate everyone. The last thing that your business needs is a video conference crash. Thus, the service itself is as important as the equipment.

The video conferencing service you use has to be compatible with the many different systems. This includes being compatible to the computer’s operating system. If you are on Windows and the other system is on Apple, the video service may have a hard time merging the two different systems. Some systems will only work with Windows and only Apple-made software will work with Macs. Even if you don’t have such two vastly different operating systems, you still have to check the comparability. There may be issues if one operating system is older than the other one.

In addition, you want to compare your business needs with the services that are provided. For example, if your video conferencing is only going to be done within the country than you may not need the options for other countries. It can make a big price difference. A small business might not need all the bells and whistles of a complex service. Fortunately, there are many different services to met a business needs.

Finally, the video conferencing service will need to have excellent customer service for the systems that do experience technical errors. Customer reviews can help you determine the quality of video conferencing customer service. A good video conferencing service will not fail when you hold that important meeting.

A business that has found its niche has found a steady sales stream. Not every internet business has yet to find their niche. In a sense, your business niche is dependent on who uses the product. Sometimes, it isn’t easy to figure out where your business fits in. Products have multiple uses. Multiple products present multiple niches. To ease the overload, you want to narrow your focus to the products that are selling best.

Once the best selling products are chosen, determine the types of people who are purchasing the items. Usually, they fall within a type of category such as homemaker or a guy who drives cars. Once you determine this category, you have the beginning of your business niche. The next two steps involve locating the hangouts of the people in that category and establishing a really appealing site that niche people will love.

The hangouts are pretty easy to find. They can be found one of two places on the internet. You can either find them on specific forums or under certain groups on a social networking site. Once you have found them, you have to appeal to them. Build up a relationship in those forums and in the groups. Spamming is not going to generate sales. It will get you kicked out of most forums who have no tolerance for such a tactic.

It is fine if your products fit into more than one category. You can develop a strategy for each category. Each strategy should be individualized for the category. For multiple niches, you want one employee focusing on one niche at a time until it is established. Don’t try to have too many niches spread out between one person. Otherwise, you will lose that personal connection you need with each niche. Finding your business niche is key to maintaining a steady stream of sales.

Just because a business is on the internet doesn’t mean that it automatically generates sales. In fact, many internet businesses are simply not getting the visitors they need to their site. Generating traffic means tapping into the many aspects of your business that people might be looking for. In other words, your potential customers are using a few keywords to find you. To catch this traffic, you have to know exactly what those customers are inputting into the search bar.

There are a couple of ways to do this. One is to set your self as the customer. Then do a search with the words that would define your internet business. This type of search gives you two pieces of critical information. The first is where your business shows up on the pages. If you can’t find yourself within the first three pages then you aren’t getting much traffic. The second thing it tells you is what your competitors are doing to get to page one. Both pieces of information will help you refine your webpage.

The next thing you can do is to use a keyword analytical tool. They are free to use and give you information on the type of wording people are using. You can use them to analyze the amount of traffic and determine which combinations work best. Then you can incorporate that into your web page content. The important thing is not to overload your page with just one keyword but to use a number of variations that direct visitors toward your site.

Keywords are a part of your advertising campaign. Once they are set, they invite visitors to click your site without any effort by you. Thus, this passive advertising method is crucial to generating sales even when you are not focusing directly on your business.

There is no doubt that instant messaging has its place in business communication. The convenience of being instantaneous is an asset. However, instant messaging has some very real dangers when using it to conduct business. These disadvantages can cast a bad light on the business if they are ignored. The rule with instant messaging is really very simple. Read it twice before you send.

One of the most common pitfalls that comes with instant messaging is spelling and grammar errors. It is a more informal platform of communication, so no one is expecting perfection. A few errors here and there are not a cause for concern. However, lots of spelling errors and consistent grammar issues will cause people to question your business practices. If you are sloppy your words, it casts a bad light on your business.

Another pitfall that comes is not saving your instant messages. This option has to be done manually. Unlike email, it doesn’t sit in your conversation folder forever. Instead, messages get deleted as the conversation continues up the screen. This is bad news if something is promised and there is no electronic record of it. Periodically, saving the important messages has to be a conscious thought and action.

Instant messaging is designed as a facsimile of a face to face conversation. The problem with this is it causes people to forget that they are conducting business. Thus, this informal setting combined with the relative anonymity of the net causes people to type things that they would not normally say. These remarks can led to a very bad perception of your company.

Instant messaging can be full of traps for the unwary business user. The temptation to instantly send is great. However, he simple rule of read it twice can save a lot of grief for your business in the long run.

An internet business does not have the luxury of walking up to its employees and having a simple conversation about work. Therefore, it has to rely on two different types of communication platforms. Both platforms have their advantages and disadvantages. The platform chosen is often dependent on the preference of the business owner. The first of the two communication platforms is the instant messaging service.

The instant messaging system is usually free for employees to sign up at. Getting them to download the system usually is a little tougher. As a business it is always vital to check out the potential employees ability to use instant messaging. Some people will refuse to do so on the probability that the business is a scam. Other potential employees may not have the capacity to load it. Once that obstacle is jumped, there are a few more that await the unwary. Spelling errors are easily made on instant messaging. There is no taking things back. Finally, instant messaging is really not seen as a formal communication platform.

Email is a more common communication platform. It lacks the instantaneous communication of instant messaging. Messages are read only when the person actually accesses their email. But accessing it is much easier with the many different electronic devices available. It is also a more formal means of conducting business. Work and personal addresses can be easily separated. Email also has the capacity to receive larger files.

The communication platform an internet business uses is important for communicating directly with employees. While the two forms can be mixed, it is important to establish a primary means so that employees aren’t confused with what they should know about business operations. Communication is at the heart of every business even the internet ones. So, the primary means of communication should fit within the business structure.

There are plenty of ways in which you can draw customers to your site. What you really want, though, is for customers to seek you out, instead of you needing to go after them. That’s a mark of business success, and it can seriously improve your bottom line, as well. Don’t assume that you can’t find a way to get customers even more interested in you than they might already be. There are always options for getting them to come to you. Social media works well, but there’s also Internet radio. If you haven’t tried it yet, it could be the logical next step for any business that wants to get its name out there and start becoming more relevant in the lives of a lot of people. It can really put your business on the map and help you out a lot, whether you’re just starting out or interested in growing.

Places like DrJays use Internet radio to bring more people to their sites. The hip hop apparel that DrJays offers is popular already, but business has increased ever since Internet radio has started to be used. That’s good news for the company, but it’s also good news for other companies. The reason behind that is based on the fact that, if it works for one company, it will work for other companies. That’s something you’ll want to consider if you’re still toying with the idea of Internet radio, and whether it’s the right choice for you.

It ultimately doesn’t matter that much what your company is selling. What matters is how you market what you’re selling. It’s important to have a great product, but even mediocre products have sold well if they’ve had great marketing behind them. Your business, with its already great products, could do much better than it is if you’d get involved with Internet radio to truly connect with your customers and their needs.

Internet giant Google Inc. has opened more office space in their Cambridge branch that already employees 300 people. Google is growing and plans to hire across the board, planning to fill 6,000 positions.

Brian Schmidt, at the Cambridge office says that Boston is a wealth of promise and talent, and they’re excited to continue growing in the Boston area. Google.com is putting out word that it’s looking for more employees, listing positions in every aspect of the business, including one to take care of new hires.

The bulk of Google’s Cambridge employees are working in the fast-paced advertising business that is Google. Engineers are working the Internet search engine and the Android OS for cell phones, tablet computers and manage the world-wide network of high-powered centers littered across the Earth.

By the end of 2010 there were over 24,000 employees strewn around the world. By hiring over 6,000 more employees in the next year, Google’s workforce will have grown by 23% in a single year.

Money is Rolling in, see 2010’s Growth Rates

In Sydney, Australia, James Schramko (owner of SEO Partner) knows that even small businesses can compete for the highest rankings in search engines like Google. He applies a system he considers smart search engine optimization, and it works very well. It’s a little complicated and Schramko banks on unknowing businesses to hire his company to put their website on the map.

Business has been so good (growing 66% in 2010), even in a downed world economy, that Schramko has added two new levels of service at this company, and made further reaches around the world. One package is for small business owners just starting out and another package is for the well-versed Internet business owner.

Online businesses have gone much further than anyone thought, in the beginning. In this recession, some of them are making the best money they’ve ever made. Instant gratification is tops, and that’s what Schramko offers his customers.

Scammers worked extra hard in 2010. Every year it blows minds when the latest step in crime is thought up and practiced. Not in any particular order, here’s some of the ‘best’ scams of 2010.

With so many people job hunting, scammers profited on people in the hopes of getting a job by telling applicants that jobs now charge a fee just for looking at their resume‘.

Scammers who say they can settle debts for people in financial turmoil have become something shady. These scammers tell customers to give the bill money to them and not their creditors, making things worse.

Work from home scams work on the promise of making income by working at home, making calls, assembling products or selling things online. Some people were even ‘hired’ to sell stolen goods online, creating havoc with legal ramifications.

The BBB’s Favorite Scams of 2010 are on Their Website

People trying to sell time-share vacation properties were scammed by people that claimed to have eager and willing buyers, but they need certain fees paid. The person pays for the fees (several thousand dollars, usually) and then the scammer is never seen again.

The not-free offers for products online. The person signs up to receive a product for free and isn’t notified until after the transaction that they agreed to let the company take money out of their bank account, monthly.

Door-to-door sales people selling construction – new roofs and other construction and repairs on houses. People pay and never see the remodeler again.

People called on the phone and are told they won a sweepstakes or lottery and need to give banking info. It’s mostly elderly people that get this scam, but there’s never a prize.

There were some overpayment scams going around. People paid more for something than was agreed on, and then they ask the recipient to return the excess balance to them. It turns out the original check was bad and the customers are then out the money they ‘returned.’

The Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) is telling employees, too bad, so sad, we‘re poor. The company that arranged for workers to handle the Olympic Games in Vancouver was to pay it’s employees a bonus of $23,000 as a retention fee, but now they‘re reneging. All employees who worked full time were eligible for the bonus that was to be paid half at the end of the Games, and the other half at a later date. Well, that later date has come and gone.

Vanoc CEO John Furlong sent a memo to all employees reminding that he’d told them that the bonuses would be difficult for the company to meet, but they tried, and now cannot make the final payments they promised. Furlong cited the reason as being the shoddy condition of the Canada‘s economy at this time.

VANOC Breaks Promise to Pay Employees for 2010 Olympic Games

The company announced in October 2009 that it would share $30 million with employees after the finish of the 2010 Olympic Games. Everyone got the first half right after the Games finished, and have been waiting for the second half. It’s not likely that it’ll be late, or postponed; it’s not coming at all, with no indication that they’ll pay them at a later time.

The payments were aimed at keeping a good working team together throughout the Olympic Games, but has now dispersed that team. 1302 full time people were counting on (and planning with) that money and the workers are now facing financial hardship, as well.

Furlong reported that privately raised funds of over $17 million were moved into a trust to pay the workers the first 60% of the retention bonus money, which they then used to pay full time staff and those who’ve worked more than six months with them. Furlong’s bonus was in addition to his salary, but he also only got a portion of it while the company cites a poor economy.

Netflix has been looking around to see if popular ISPs can keep up with movie-streaming on their computers. They’ve looked all over the US and Canada, and in the US (not Canada) the fastest service goes to Comcast, hands down.

Remember the commercials for Clearwire? How they dumped tons of candy representing their coverage compared to another company with only a few pieces of candy? The commercials were good, but the company didn’t deliver what it promised. That commercial made people think that Clearwire would landslide other companies with that kind of coverage and speed.

At best, Clearwire has been called hit or miss on forums discussing ISPs. Most people talk about how slow it is and how disappointed they were with the service. Customer service reps were very nice and tried to be helpful, but there’s nothing they can do about download time or streaming video.

Clearwire or Comcast?

Netflix tested all the major ISPs in the US and found there was only one that lives up to it’s promise and could stream movies without interruption, and that is Comcast. However, there are two drawbacks for going with Comcast.

The first thing is also something talked about in the forums online; price. Comcast is one of the most expensive providers out there, and we aren’t talking about just a few dollars. It’s a lot more expensive, but it’s so consistently fast that people love it and find that they can’t change to a slower ISP, so they pay. Also, customer service at Comcast seems to suck. Many threads in the forums are about this, and as far as customer service goes, Clearwire wins.

Sometimes the old saying, “the customer is always right” is just that; an old saying. Many large companies don’t treat their customers well. However, the product they sell is so good, that this is one instance where customers will pay extra and accept less friendly customer service.

The most common method of expanding business in the past often had a personal factor that involved face-to-face interaction. Now though, with the world wide economy emerging through the Internet, it’s becoming increasingly popular and necessary to use the internet as a catalyst to boost your business.

As a business owner, it is to your greatest advantage to exploit the tools of the Internet to help increase your customer numbers, keep your current customers happy, and to simply advertise and inform the public. Learning and developing an expert computer-sense is definitely worth your while. If you want to stay in line with your competitors or, better yet, stay a step ahead, you must take advantage of the many marketing methods the internet offers.

For example, have you spent sleepless nights wondering why certain products aren’t selling? Wonder no longer. Through a survey, you can receive feedback to your burning business questions within minutes. Customer satisfaction survey is simple and to the point. Customers are more likely to answer one or two questions quickly rather than a lengthy list that takes up their precious time, so design the survey to be short and last only a few minutes. Then in no time, you can discover why or why not a particular product is selling at its current rate. You can learn what makes your customers happy. It is that simple.

Another means of quickly acquiring customer feedback is through social networking. Create a profile on Facebook or use Twitter to inform the public about your business or merely keep your customers posted on updates. Research validates the fact that a friendly, informative approach as used in social networking, gains more clients then an overzealous one.

Word of mouth is one of the best advertising tools you can ask for. But before you can put word of mouth to work you’ve got to make sure people — both potential clients and returning customers — remember who you are. And then, of course, you’ve got to make sure their memories are positive.

Here are a few simple ways to help draw clients minds back to you at the most opportune moments:

Hand out free stuff they can actually use. Water bottles with your logo on them, or attractive well-fitted T-shirts and other apparel are good. Everybody needs socks at some point, and since they usually stay at least partially hidden from other people, people probably wouldn’t mind wearing your logo on a nice pair of socks — but they’ll think of you every time they put them on.

Send out holiday cards. Christmas cards are the obvious choice, but if your business revolves around a specific holiday or holidays — say, Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day if you’re a florist — consider sending out a little “thank you for your business” card before these holidays. It’ll bring you to mind in time for your clients to place another order.

Form a mailing list. Trust is crucial here; make sure your clients know you won’t share their contact information with anyone else, then follow up on your promise. You can use the list — either email or old-fashioned mail — to distribute order reminders, information about new products or services, other company news or newsletters.

Offer discounts. Hand out coupons at fairs, or tuck them into the holiday cards or integrate them into your newsletters.

Solicit feedback, then act on it. Nothing inspires a client to come back than seeing that their feedback is actively solicited and acted upon; this proves how much you value the client, more than mere words even could.

Working for someone else has a lot of good points about it. If you work for some companies, they will actually pay you a pension for the rest of your life if you give them enough good and valuable service. This is something that you are never guaranteed if you start your own business. And speaking of starting a business, how often does a job require you to pay large startup costs and endure months (if not even years) without drawing any kind of a pay check? Typically, when you work for someone else’s company, they are already profitable before you even entre the picture. Now, when you leave they may be in shambles- but as an employee, you don’t have to pay back the company’s debts.

People talk about Worldcom, Tycho and Enron as examples of what happens when common people put way too much faith into a business where there are outright shysters at the top of the pyramid. In some cases, this is completely true- and who hasn’t caught their boss lying at least a few times? But when it comes right down to it, if the company folds, you can steal office supplies, update your resume to give yourself a “title promotion,” and just generally do all kinds of shady things that make you look better than you were.

In fact, you may even find that you can leap frog over a lot of other, more qualified candidates if you practice a little “creative resume editing.” One reason we work for others may be that the worst that happens to a low ranking employee who fudges a detail here and there is that they get fired for it. They don’t drag you in front of a Congressional committee, and have you try to explain why you bought a new yacht while your company was going under. All in all, there is a lot to be said for being someone else’s employee.

There’s a fuzzy line between the realm of ‘selling’ and the realm of what can be defined as the ability to “brand” your products in the consumer market with a NAME or an IDEA, maybe even a “tag-line”. Sometimes selling and branding cross. Sometimes branding is completely overlooked.

Please be careful. The concept of branding should NEVER be thrown by the wayside and forgotten. Because that word, “branding”, is your mega-seller in this financial world. So use it.

The reason being is that branding is what’s responsible for repeat business. It also stimulates sales. Bring more clients or customers to the table is the result of clear and effective branding, and the bottom line is that’s what is important in ANY line of business: more clients or customers, continual stream of income, profitability.

Think “Nike”, “Dawn”, “NFL Football”, “Toys ‘R Us”. That’s branding. Instead of just making shoes or dish liquid or creating a football league or building toys, you’re creating NAMES. Names people can remember, identify with. It’s not terribly easy to figure out how to “brand” your product, though. Selling is one thing; branding is a whole different ball game. You can sell just plain-old lemonade on the sidewalk and make some money, but putting a name to your cool cardboard corporation, a name to your product, could actually build up more business. But how do you figure it all out? Ask yourself these questions:

“Am I really PASSIONATE about my product?”

“Do I have a BIG VISION for my enterprise?”

“Does my business or product BENEFIT others in some magnificent way?”

“Am I prepared to INCLUDE and INCORPORATE (and that’s a key word) others into my business to create a team?

And INCORPORATE is a key word, because that’s part of the root for the word CORPORATION. And trust this: every CORPORATION brands their products.

If your answer is ‘yes’ to all these questions, then you have the means to brand what you’re selling.

If you have recently started a small business, or even if you have been running one for years, this is a great time to think about your online presence. This means more than just a website; it can also incorporate a blog, a Facebook page and a Twitter account. How do you know where to start, and what to do with it?
Begin with your website. You can purchase a domain name for less than $10 in most cases, and if you’re comfortable with the computer, you can even design the site yourself using a free editing tool. For most people, however, its best to find a reputable web designer with reasonable fees who will create your site for you. You will want to make sure that your website accurately describes your business and provides customers with a way to find you. Include an email address from an account that you monitor religiously, and supply the storefront address and phone number for people to find you in person.

You can also incorporate a blog into your website, where you post news related to your business. This can be used for sales, incentives, advertising or whatever else you like. Another great way of drumming up traffic to your website is to create a Facebook page for it. Linking to your Facebook page and encouraging your employees and favorite customers to “Like” it or become fans will help to spread the word through the online community.

Twitter is another great tool for getting the name of your business out. Posting on your Twitter account is fast and easy; since you can only post 140 characters per post, you won’t have to spend a great deal of time thinking about what to say. Again, ask your employees and loyal clients to follow you, and you will gain traffic.

You see it everywhere you go these days. The big mega stores have automated check out lines with no attendant. Bank branches long ago added automated tellers and now, many people go to the bank to open an account and never step foot inside again. These days, with online money accounts like PayPal, people don’t even need to use a traditional bank to complete transactions. It is up to you to keep up with the times and your companies success is based on learning to be more automated and be accessible to customers where they are at now.

The future of business is here now and it includes banking that is done completely electronically. Many people these days do not even have checks for their checking account. If your company is to keep up you need a variety of ways of receiving payment including being able to transfer money direct from a bank electronically.

If your company provides a service that requires regular payments such as monthly or yearly, you need to allow for direct automatic payments directly from the customers banks. Banks and credit unions these day are getting set up to pay bills directly from the customers online bank account. One credit union allows you to receive your bills, actually see the bill from the company on the banks website, and pay it immediately with a few clicks. If you can not provide this simple service to your customers you are going to lose them to the competition.

In order to provide such a service your company will have to not only be caught up on using computers to do business, but you will need to be online and provide an online billing service. Without these opportunities your customers will go elsewhere. Technology will continue to advance, the advice, keep up.

Social media is quickly becoming an invaluable tool in business marketing. Social media allows a company to directly communicate with and receive feedback from their customers. It allows the business to target specific markets, increase brand awareness, keep an eye on the competition, and manage their online reputation. Facebook and Twitter have made it easy for customers to share information about a company and endorse its products with a click of the mouse. With the ease of “share” or “Like”, the company’s email or web address goes out from one customer to their whole social network of friends. This can create a snowball effect way beyond the scope of anything a company could do on its own. They must of course offer engaging and valuable information that is worth being passed on since bad news travels just as fast as good. Research has found that customers are more likely to share information about a company, when a soft marketing approach is used rather than a hard sell. They are looking for valuable information or the answer to a question or problem.
The instant communication offered by social media sites, allows a company to make changes and adjustments quickly in response to customer feedback. The willingness to make changes improves customer satisfaction. Customers who know their concerns are being address, are going to come back themselves and spread the word to their friends. This immediate response is not possible with traditional marketing plans.
Social media sites and webpage blogs can create an ongoing exchange of customer generated reviews and testimonies. Praise from a list of happy customers is more likely to sell a new customer on a product than the company promoting itself. Happy customers are valuable assets to the reputation of the company. This again can have a harmful effect if the reviews are negative.
Social media marketing can connect a company with the consumer in a way that traditional marketing campaigns never could.

Tired of the long commute back and forth to work every day? What if there was a way to work conveniently from your own home while benefiting you, your employer, and the environment. Defined as a work arrangement to allow employees the freedom to work outside of the office, teleworking is the business trend of the future.

Employer Benefits
- The biggest benefits to the employer are cost savings to the company.
- Premises costs diminish
- Relocation costs are eliminated
- Office overheads dwindle
- The employer is able to gain a 10 – 40 percent increase in productivity as the employee experiences less interruptions during the day and is never late to work.
- When an employee needs to relocate, the job remains filled. No longer does the employer need to spend money on hiring and training a replacement.
- Telework provides flexibility allowing employers to hire staff in different time zones for 24/7 customer service and production.
- If nature disasters or emergencies cause the main facility to close down for a day or two, production does not completely halt as teleworkers remain working.

Employee Benefits
- Telework cuts down on travel time and costs allowing the employee to concentrate on higher productivity.
- The employee has the flexibility to manage appointments and maintain a household without interfering with job performance and tasks.
- The ability to work from home produces job satisfaction and reduces the need for employees to seek other employment.
- Telework cuts down on employees taking sick and personal days giving the employer a producing staff member 40 hours a week.

Economic and Social Benefits
- Telework decreases the amount of cars of the road, reduces traffic congestion, and diminishes emissions released to the air.
- In high areas of unemployment, telework can enable workers opportunities that arise anywhere in the country.
- Telework jobs can increase work access to those with special needs or disabilities.

If executed properly, telework could be a beneficial option for both businesses and their employees.

Customers are more likely to search the internet for business information nowadays than use the phone book. With laptops, netbooks, smart phones and iPads available to customers 24-7, the phone book has met, and been conquered by, considerable opponents. With that in mind, businesses now need to develop websites that will drive them into the internet search realm of advertising. Let’s look at some ways to make your website stand out.

Busy is Not Good for Business

A busy website will not draw business. Instead, you should keep the site simple yet intuitive. If you need help designing a website, many website designers are available to make your website stand out.

Add Information

Many customers click on the first website that pops up on a Google search. To get in that top spot or to gain rank, on search engines like Google, you need to establish fresh information. A blog or additional information can help you get to the top. If you are not a writer, freelance writers can write a blog or write SEO (search engine optimization) articles for your site. These will help draw traffic, and in turn, increase your rank.

Make Friends

Another way to increase your rank is to become cyber friends with different websites similar to yours. The idea in making cyber friends is that you can advertise for each other. You can place a link to your new friend’s site on your site, and your friend can do the same for you. This will help both of you draw new customers and hopefully increase your search engine rank.

There are also many advertising options and additional page rank ideas to make your site stand out to your potential customers, but to begin, establishing a beautiful site with a consistent influx of new information and making friends can get your business on its way to a top page rank.

In today’s business world stability is hard to find and cherished when it is discovered. One industry that was noted as being one of the recession-proof industries was the pet industry. Many people consider their pets as members of the family and even if the person has to go without, Fluffy and Mr. Kitty will still get their kibble. Although, during the recession animals being relinquished to animal controls did increase dramatically, there were still many individuals who refused to let go of their furry companions. According to Small Business Trends at http://smallbiztrends.com/2010/01/pet-industry-trends-for-2010.html the pet industry is projected to continue a growth pattern. Pet services and veterinary care are becoming factored more in family’s budgets and as a result pet insurance has also become very popular. Pet insurance has become so popular that some employers also offer pet insurance as a benefit along with regular medical insurance for their employees.

Of course this does not mean that in every market all pet companies or animal related businesses are not feeling the effects of the recession. Non-profit animal rescue organizations have been hit hard by individuals relinquishing pets and a reduction in donations. Some smaller pet businesses may not be able to compete against the online stores and the pet store giants such as PetSmart or Petco. Yet, as an industry as a whole the pet industry has shown resilience in a tough market.

With the new year coming along the hopes are for an upturn in the economy to spur the public into buying and getting our country back on its feet. In the case of pets it is hoped this will occur to not only keep the industry thriving but to help animals stay in their homes and hopefully other animals to be rescued and able to find their new families.
